The Boars Head team has been playing in the Berkeley and District Skittles League for many years, but a change of ownership at the Boars Head Inn (the team's home alley) saw Pete Stump take over as captain with a completely new set of players to represent the pub for the 2003/04 season.
Steve "Reg" Mansell soon took control and formed a team based on nepotism, favouritism, bribery and whether or not a player lives in (or has ever lived in) Park View Road in Berkeley.
Er, surprisingly quite a good squad was formed. In order to allow Reg the freedom to nurture and develop the squad, Pete (who was now captain in name only) kept the roles of secretary and treasurer but to save confusion as to who actually was the captain, in a true continental style, Pete was relabelled as Director of Skittles.
The team is currently playing (languishing!) in Division 2 and of the original 2003/04 squad Brian Palmer, Frazer Brown, Steve Hopkins, and Rex "oldest man in the league" Hale are still part of the current squad.

Breezed past Hot Gossips from Div 5 to get through to 3rd round of All-in Cup, despite the Director's and JT's best efforts to "keep it friendly". Kitty topped £1000 this week...
Few debts which need to be mentioned: Fraz £10, Reg £40, Dan £10, JT £20, DJ £10 - need to get these paid PLEASE else we'll get no optional extras like HELMETS for Dam's Ice Speedway "secret tour" next summer... NEW RULE (B.12): "Berkeley Ham and Stone" at any time, £1 fine Agreed by the team in a drunken stupor on 12th November
The drunken stupor may also account for us only scoring 393 on the same night - our lowest score at home, ever! Have drawn Hot Gossips from Division 5 in the next round of the All-in Cup - match to be played on Wed 19 Nov at Dursley C.C. Okay, so we're out of the Front-pin competition but there's still the League and All-in Cup to play for... NEW RULE (A.5): Matches after (but including) Wanderers at home on 3rd November... if you're not playing and want to go on tour then (whether it be through droppage or workage) your subs will be £10 and must be paid everytime you don't play. Agreed by a quorum and accepted by general consent on 8th OctoberS-e-e-e-cret Tour took place in Guernsey over the weekend of Friday 18th to Sunday 20th July. Until the team arrived at check-in at Bristol Airport, only the Director of Skittles had known the tour destination. The tour included a skittles match against a representative side from the Sarnia Skittles Club captained by Phil Trouteaud of Sarnia side Lungys Legends. Needless to say we won by 18 pins despite the Directors' best efforts to keep the game "friendly". The weekend also included a go-kart grand prix which was won by JT who managed his victory by nudging everybody else off the track (much to the horror of staff and marshalls at Karting Guernsey). Most drunken tourist was won hands down by Damage (banned from a bar which he'd never been in!) and menace of the weekend was definately Frazer who kept mumbling something about being official tour photographer. Photos will follow (once they all been forwarded to the Director)... Thanks go to Phil for organising the match in Guernsey; to Peter at the Hampshire Lodge Hotel for hosting the match and to everyone involved for their hospitality during our stay.
